how do you make the bleached bits white instead of orange?? Are a lot of these looks actually white jeans to start with then tie dyed black? My tester looks like a bonfire. Kind of cool... for halloween perhaps! Is there a sort of bleach to use / avoid? help!

No, most of the bleached jeans you see are initially colored denim (well, after the manufacturer dyes it and you buy it), but when I made mine, I used a watered-down mixture of Clorox Premium Bleach.

I think that the key to avoiding yellowing is rinsing in the washing machine immediately afterwards to get the bleach out. You may have to do this a couple of times. Otherwise, the bleach/air/light combo will continue to disintegrate the denim and turn it yellow. Btw, smart idea to use a tester pair!

Let me know how it works for you!
