Emma Watson: Designer

*deep sigh* It really bugs me when celebs don't keep it real with us. The latest offender??? Emma Watson. Although she said last July when she became the face of Burberry, that she had NO interest in having a clothing nor perfume line click here, she has been acting as creative advisor for her own eco-friendly line for British retailer, People Tree called The Emma Watson for People Tree collection.

The entire collection, which includes a full range of separates for men and women, is 100% organic cotton and made entirely by hand by Fair Trade groups. "I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there," said Watson in a statement.

The Emma Watson for People Tree collection will be available next month at peopletree.co.uk

Surprise, Surprise, Rihanna to Start Fashion Line

Rihanna, who will be shooting her next album cover very soon, has been going to many of fashion shows for inspiration. “I’m shopping for what I’m going to wear on the cover,” she said. Well, excuse me! I am not mad at you girl, that IS the way to do it!

She also revealed that she will be starting her own fashion line which she describes as “fun and edgy and badass.” This isn't surprising at all and I'm SUPER excited about it! I think her and Diane Kruger have the hottest styles right now, but considering that Rihanna does have a stylist, the fabulous Mariel Haenn, I wonder how much of her look is created on her own... Is she capable of pulling this off? Will it be the usual over-hyped and under-styled celebrity fashion line?

Fashionista Alert: Emma Watson

Oh joy! The next installment of the Harry Potter movie series, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, has brought major attention to one if its stars in particular, Emma Watson. Emma, who plays the character of Hermione Granger, is making a name for herself in the fashion world, and it is well deserved. She has come a long way from her first red carpet outfit as an 11 year old who looked like a kid trying to look like a movie star with a denim dress and purple boa.

While she currently has no interest in starting her own clothing or perfume line, “The idea of making my own perfume makes me want to vomit,” she has been asked by Burberry's creative director, Christopher Bailey, to be the latest celebrity face of the brand.

“I was really excited,” she says. “I’ve done a bit of modeling over the past year so I had practice.”

Nicole Richie on Her Next House of Harlow 1960 Collection: “It’s Completely Different” - Style News – StyleWatch – People.com

Since launching her House of Harlow 1960 jewelry collection last year, Nicole Richie’s designs have turned up on many of her famous friends, including Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian. The Indian- and African-inspired pieces were so popular that stores started selling out as soon as her pieces hit the shelves. Now, Nicole is gearing up for her second House of Harlow 1960 collection, which will extend to clothing and shoes. Despite the success of her first line, Nicole tells Singer22.com that her new collection is “going to be a totally different line.” While the first one was inspired by her personal vintage jewelry collection and her travels to flea markets around the world, Nicole says the next one “is focusing more on old English, equestrian and more sophisticated looks.” As for her shoe and clothing lines, Nicole is still in the design process. “I’ve been working really hard on designing and picking the right fabrics for my Spring 2010 line,” she says. We can’t wait to see what this fashionista has in store for us. Read more of the interview and shop Nicole’s current line at Singer22.com.

I actually have high expectations for this line. Nicole's image has come a LONG way from that of when she first hit the scene, so I look forward to seeing if the stylists that helped clean up her image have rubbed off on her own personal tastes and style.

Amy Winehouse: Singer, Addict, Designer???

Amy Winehouse has confirmed British press reports that she is indeed working on a fashion line to be launched later this year with London label PPQ, designed by Amy Molyneaux and Percy Parker. *crickets*

I think it is a slap in the face of fashion to just let any famous person represent it. I mean, really! Who wants their daughter, mother, wife, girlfriend, best friend, etc looking like this?! Not only is her lifestyle questionable, but her personal fashion choices are horrendous. I can only hope that the price point of this line will match her look - cheap.

Estelle to launch shoe line???

Singer, Estelle hasn't been in the world of music very long to establish her popularity or fashion icon-worthiness, but she is considering launching her own shoe line. "I love accessories," she said after having codesigned a bag with Jonathan Kelsey for Belvedere Vodka. The Belvie bag (pictured above), which retails for $1400, has a secret pocket to hold a bottle of vodka...*crickets* Unless you're an alcholic or totally classless, I don't think that this is a desirable feature for your bag.

Check out her shoe game and decide if you think she should be signing off of on shoe designs:

Hmmm....personally I'm underwhelmed, but wish her the best of luck in her endeavors.

Lauren Conrad Collection

About a month ago, I gave my thoughts on how underwhelmed I was with The Lauren Conrad Collection (click here for blog). Well apparently, she is too. Page Six reported that her clothing line was put on hiatus indefinitely and she quickly responded (read: attempted to save face) on her MySpace Blog:

A few days ago a statement was released to the showrooms that carry my clothing line. It asked them to let the stores know that I was planning to take a couple seasons off from my line so that I could make some changes that I felt were necessary. As a result, a lot of people were under the impression that my line was being discontinued or had been dropped. This isn't the case at all. The truth is I was the one who asked to take a couple seasons off. I have learned so much in the past year and I want to apply that to the improvement of my clothing line. I also wanted to make some changes in production so I would be able to lower the price point. I have spent the last couple weeks working on designs for spring, which is when I am planning to bring the (new and improved) line back. I also have some very exciting things going on that will be announced shortly.

Then, we hear the announcement of one these "very exciting things"...that she will have a line at Kohl's. Really now? This does not sound promising. Surely, the selling point of a $225 tank dress is as a luxe-fabric basic because it surely isn't as a fashion piece. So what collaboration can the Kohl's design team assist with to produce a line that ranges from $20-80??? *yawn*, yeah...

Running for The Hills

MTV's reality show The Hills, that followed Laguna Beach star Lauren Conrad to Los Angeles in her pursuit of a fashion education and career, has opened doors for her as well as her costars.

Herself, Heidi Montag, Whitney Port, and now Audrina Patridge have all used their fame to launch their own collections. While they are all of a different style, they have one thing in common - they are underwhelming at best.

LAUREN

Lauren's line, the Lauren Conrad Collection, has simple silhouettes which make great basics, but require severe accessorizing to create a "fashionable" look. In her defense though, she is from SoCal and the looks are inspired by their laid-back style. Here are 3 of her more eye-catching styles from the 2009 Fall/Winter collection:

HEIDI

Move along folks, there's nothing here to see...
LOL no, but seriously, Anchor Blue has reportedly dropped Heidi Montag’s fashion line, Heidiwood, in an effort to focus almost exclusively on denim. That's not a bad idea if you ask me. Jeans rock!
Though just in case you were curious, here are some images from her online lookbook that we could've looked forward to seeing in her would've been fashion line:

WHITNEY
Whitney Port's line, Whitney Eve, has um, interesting looks that I can definitely see her in. The line got picked up by Kitson and this particular dress retails for $345. I say no way, but to each her own.

AUDRINA

Audrina Patridge, who will probably have the least success of the four women, although she has the most attractive line AND its denim (take notes Heidi) has signed a deal with denim line, Divine Rights of Denim. She is not only the face of the brand, but she also co-designed their latest line. It is definitely a budget-friendly brand - most are priced below $100. I wonder if Justin Bobby is the hairstylist for her ads...

I'm not one of those people who unconditionally love to root for the underdog, but I've got to go with Audrina on this one. I think the jeans are really cute AND they are under $100?! I'm ALL over these!

Andre 3000 / Benjamin Bixby

By now, we're all pretty unsurprised at the fashion stylings of Andre 3000. He's been seen in fur pants, turbans, and jerseys. So, it wasn't much of a surprise when he announced a year ago that he was starting his own fashion line - Benjamin Bixby.

Such images, drawn from college football circa 1935, inspired his new clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, thanks to a documentary he stumbled across on TV one night. Consisting of 70 pieces, the line is self-funded and was picked up by Barney's and Harrods last fall. (Benjamin is a fashion autodidact: He has taken advice from Anna Wintour (who invited him to a Met gala), he has sketched the clothes himself, he has been to Italian factories and Parisian textile fairs.

We weren't so sure about the market for these wildly colorful expensive clothes, but Congrats to Andre! He just had a launch party for his Spring 09 Menswear line at Holt Renfrew Bloor Street in Toronto.

I wouldn't really want my man in these getups, but I think the style would make for a great women's line...which he DOES plan to do.

Let's take a look at his wild variety of looks:

Justin Suarez (Mark Indelicato) To Release Denim Line

Actor, Mark Indelicato (who plays the endearing character of Justin Suarez on ABC hit show Ugly Betty), is not too different from his fashionisto character of Justin. He was seen at several fashion shows during New York Fashion Week (Z Zenga and Badgley Mischka to name a couple) and announced his plans to launch a denim collection of his own next year.

Here is the catch: He is working with Disney (yes, Mickey Mouse Disney) on this line. However, they have yet to officially green-light the project.

Sooooo....I'm kinda confused... Who is the target market here? Disney is obviously associated with children, but the 18 year-old himself was wearing a prototype of the line (although they do look pretty snug). Would Disney back a contemporary (read: young adult) line? We'll just have to see what happens with this one.
