Happy Anniversary Jeans!!!

75 years ago in September of 1934, Levi Strauss & Co. introduced its first line of women's jeans called Lady Levi's. They were created for women who wore men's jeans while working on farms and ranches, but by 1935, made it all the way to the pages of Vogue Magazine.

To celebrate this anniversary, Lynn Downey, Levi Strauss & Co historian, will be hosting several events at Levi stores which will feature historical women's jeans, memorabilia, and discounts to shoppers.

The upcoming dates and locations are:
  • October 3 - Los Angeles Beverly Hills Store
  • October 17 - San Francisco Union Square Store
  • October 24 - Chicago Michigan Avenue Store

"Levi Strauss & Co.'s decision to create a line of women's Levi's jeans was very progressive at the time," says Downey. "Pants still weren't an acceptable part of a woman's wardrobe, let alone a style of pants considered to be men's workwear. The Lady Levi's line offered forward-thinking women a new sense of freedom - and though this new found liberation started in the West, it eventually became a nationwide phenomenon."

Who you tellin'?!

Oh, and FYI, if you are still wearing denim jeans that looks like those in the ad above, please kill yourself :-)   No, but seriously, please get some new jeans...immediately.

Dolce & Gabbana Launch

FRESH DIRECT: On the arms of Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova were cheered on arrival by a crowd of nearly 3,000 at Rinascente Friday evening.

The faces of D&G's new fragrance collection, the supermodels, clad in D&G's denim pieces, turned up at the luxury department store to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the designers in the ground floor beauty department. "I'm overwhelmed, this is amazing," said Campbell, who walked out singing along to George Michael's “Freedom 90” song, the soundtrack for the fragrances' TV commercials.

Word has it that Mario Testino, director of the scent collection's TV and print campaigns, decided at the last minute to capture the models completely nude, and convinced the trio, despite the fact it had not been specified in their contracts.

Week in Denim

Teyana Taylor rocked her ripped jeans with the trendy motorcycle jacket. Just in case you didn't know, the motorcycle jacket is HUGE for fall...HUGE.

Gisele Bundchen is one of those women other women love to hate. She has Tom Brady, is wearing non-maternity jeans at 6 months into her pregnancy...with Tom Brady's child, and she's living life to the fullest, pursing her helicopter license...hey, where's Tom Brady?! Oh, making millions on the field...my bad.

Here is Ashanti with her little sister, Shi Shi. I posted this picture to criticize Shi Shi's horrible stonewashed denim jumper, only to realize that I hate Ashanti's outfit as well. I DO like Ashanti's new hairstyle though.

AnnaLynne McCord and Gabrielle Union both wearing their jeggings. I'm loving AnnaLynne's look!

Kate Beckinsale in tie-dyed jeans. Not sure where those white pumps fit in AFTER Labor Day! I am all about year-round white, but I believe that we must stop at the shoes.

Halle Berry

Um, is Katy Perry's hand encased in that giraffe shirt???

Red Carpet: The 2009 Emmy Awards

This past Sunday, September 20th the 61st Primetime Emmy Awards aired. I know I am  late posting my take on the red carpet, but the fulltime gig has been kicking my butt this week. So here we go.

The Good

Blake Lively - I think she looked absolutely stunning in this red dress. This is my one of my favorite looks.

Kim and Kourtney Kardashian - As ususal, the sisters look great. Kourtney is wearing her pregnancy very well.

January Jones - I love the intricacies of this gown's bodice and the flow of the train.. This gown also makes her look great - very shapely. This is another favorite of mine.

Hayden Panettiere - This is a beautiful gown in a beautiful color! That clutch isn't doing anything for the dress (or me) though.

Jennifer Love Hewitt - There's nothing special about this gown, but I think as a whole that she looks great.

Mila Kunis - This dress is so fun and the shoes match perfectly!

Julie Benz - I love love love this look. Its sexy, sparkly, different...what's not to like here?

Vanessa Williams - This woman always looks amazing...next!

The Bad

Olivia Wilde - She received a lot of kudos from the fashion critics for this gown, but all I see is Ice Capades...

Leighton Meister - This looks like this was a short dress that they made long (but should've stayed short) at the last minute by attaching an extra piece of material to the skirt. If it was short, I don't believe those shoulder puffs would irritate me so either...

Amy Poehler - Can we say frump-a-dump-dump? Yeah, you wouldn't think twice about this look in regular life, but you take celebrity + awards show + designers + stylists, and this is the final result??? I am so underwhelmed.

Drew Barrymore - This color of this gown requires a tan...that is all.

The Ugly

Ginnifer Goodwin - The neckline of this gown is killing me. This looks like it was made by one of the least talented designers on Project Runway...I'm sure Michael and Nina would agree.

Mary Louise Parker - Ok, so how many varying shades and textures of non-luxe-looking purple material are we going to try to fit into one dress? Too many. Too bad.

Sarah Silverman - WHO WAS THIS DRESS MADE FOR???!!!! Nobody, that's who. This may be one of the most unflattering gowns I have ever seen. Maybe the designer was channeling the Victorian era, perhaps? #fail

The Miscellaneous

Christina Applegate - I really can't decide how I feel about this one. I mean, she looks great in it, the color is beautiful, I love the neck and shoulder detail, but the stomach detail is a little overkill for me.

Heidi Klum - Nobody does pregnancy like Heidi...nope, not even you Kourt. The extremity of the silhouette freaks me out a little, but I can appreciate any woman carrying another person and can always manage to look like this...

All Great Fashionistas Think Alike...

So Rihanna was spotted in NYC rocking the Stella McCartney boots to die for that I fell in love with this past June. While I can appreciate her ensemble, I certainly would've worn these boots with something else...

Hating the Look: Estelle

Estelle was spotted in London during Fashion Week in this awful stonewashed side-zip denim dress. I don't care how you try to accessorize that thing, it is U-G-L-Y. This looks like a thrifting trip gone terribly wrong.

Weekend in Denim

Melody Thornton wore a denim vest and cutoffs while tearing up the stores. The look wouldn't be so bad, but her accessories (gold shades, heavy shoes, white tote, black clutch) are bringing her look down 10 notches.

Gwen Stefani wearing jeans from her L.A.M.B. line.

Queen Latifah kept it a little too casual for me in her white tee, jeans, and white kicks.

Kerry Washington looked fabulous in a great-fitting pair of denim jeans.

Miley Cyrus rocked some HOT black denim jeans while performing with Sheryl Crow. I love the leather-finish. I have some great Sass & Bide ones, but Miley's are by Frankie B.

Serena Williams put a casual chic spin on her denim capris.
