Those jeans cost HOW MUCH?!!!

Some women do not quite understand the premium denim market. For them, spending $125+ on a single pair is unfathomable and is a complete waste of money...WRONG!!!

DON'T BE AFRAID TO INVEST IN YOUR JEANS!

Usually the higher the price, the better the quality. Many premium brands invest in incorporating different types of fit tecnology that will camouflage problem areas and flatter your body. Also, the fabric may be a tighter weave (which makes it softer), and the more stitches on the seams, the higher the price. If you're wondering why you should care about the weave, let me tell you: because softer weaves drape the body best. Have you ever seen a guy in an obviously bad suit? It hangs poorly and is wearing him rather than him wearing it. If you still don't get it, let me put it like this: its like the difference in 200 thread count cotton sheets vs 1000 thread count egyptian cotton sheets. Mmhmm, see? There IS a difference!

Also take into account where the jeans are made. Quite naturally, anything made in the USA rather than overseas has cost manufacturers a lot more money to produce. So those jeans are going to cost more.

Buying any article of clothing is an investment into your look, so if you're going to spend any money an anything, make sure you are getting a return on your investment. And if you wear jeans often, you will!

Premium denim tends to stand the test of time too. Good jeans age gracefully and have a longer lifespan than their cheaper counterparts. You may not feel comfortable splurging on a trendy pair, but consider doing so for your basic multi-purpose pair. Once you've found your perfect pair, if you don't want to buy 2 of the same pair (one for heels and one to be altered for flats), consider getting a hem that's slightly angled. Or, just stick with this brand or cut. Another good thing about premium brands is that they have established basic styles with specific style names. From season to season, the bodies of these basic styles stay somewhat the same, so once you know what style works for you, you're set!

Rear Backup

When trying to find jeans to fit and flatter to you, one of the most important features to consider is the BACK POCKET. Its pretty much the only part of the jean that can't be altered, so if your hard-to-fit body part is your rear, you should start your denim search by eliminating unflattering back pockets. The standard rule is:

  • If you are a size 2-6, choose jeans with pockets that are about: 5.5" wide x 5.75" high.

Level 99 Chole S.

  • If you're a size 8+, choose jeans with pockets that are about 6.5" wide x 6.75" high.

That's not all though. We have pockets for the Flat and the Round.

FLAT

The best pockets for a flat rear are ones with details - stitching, embellishments, and flaps. These will give you a little moore boost. No-no's are jeans with large square pockets, slit pockets, or no pockets at all. Here are some recommended pockets:

ROUND
To keep your body looking well-proportioned, the best pockets for this rear are ones that don't over-accentuate it. This rear shape can wear slit pockets or no pockets at all and still look shapely. Here are some examples here:

Let the White Parties Commence!!!

A few years back, white was a color that was thought of by many as only appropriate for Easter, "skinny people," and the trendy. Thanks to Diddy, who has propelled the "White Party" from a rarity to a regular occurence, everyBODY needs white in their wardrobe...its the status quo! So, here is a guide to assist those of you with harder-to-fit body types in finding the right style for your body type.

Slender: Work what you got (or what curves you don't got) and make the most of your body type with some skinny jeans. White is a great color for playing up curves when you don't have many.

Pear-shaped: You've got plenty of hips and a small waist, so this mid-rise wide leg pant (this style shown is not a jean; it is a cotton twill) accentuates your best feature while balancing out your proportions with a fuller leg. Bootcut styles will work for you as well.

Flatter Rears: For those of you who aren't very bootylicious, but are looking for a style that will add a little umph to your rear, go for styles that have detail on the back pockets or flap pockets. What you DON'T want is a style without a pocket at all or large square pockets.

This is also a perfect style for those trendy girls who want to stand out amongst the other white-clad party guests!

Hourglass: Based off of male input of the body types in Jean-O-Type's Jean Finder, your figure was definitely voted the sexiest! So although you can get away with wearing most styles if you are a well-proportioned hourglass, what style of jean you choose are a matter of what your look you are going for and/or how much male attention you are seeking!

If you dare to wear short shorts...

It seems that all of the celebs are breaking out their denim cutoffs in honor of Summer 08. And why not? They can be dressed up or down, worn to lunch or to the beach, and they are perfect for keeping as cool as possible for those 80+ degree days. If you've been priming your bod for these all winter long - we totally encourage them. HOWEVER, if you haven't quite gotten your body right to rock these fabulously, don't fret...you have an option.....LEGGINGS!

And just in case you thought you couldn't take these into the fall, fashion trendsetter, Kate Moss (who was hugely responsible for the popularity of the skinny jean) shows us how to do so:

We know wide leg jeans are totally in style now, BUT...

When it comes to jeans, you can never go wrong if you ignore the trends and go for fit. If you have hips and thighs and curves galore, this is your time to shine. BUT, if you are very slender, wide legs can swallow you alive, so don't forget about your skinnies!

Here are some great wide-leg jeans.

To Crop or Not to Crop?

Sure, Beyonce looks chic rocking her Siwy Hannah Slim Crop jeans (though she looks good in just about everything...I know I know life is unfair), but this style is NOT for everyBODY. Petite women (5'3" and under) should steer clear of these...unless you want to look even shorter (think lollipop guild). Shorter women should definitely go for a longer pant leg to

E L O N G A T E the leg.

Besides, being that the petite (myself included) always have to buy jeans in which inches of our precious denim has to be hacked off to fit, wearing crops/capris that are made to fit taller women will only make us look like our pants are too short. And short people wearing "floods" is like an oxymoron or something! Now, the only exception is if you are VERY petite and a cropped inseam will fit you like a regular pair.

Average to taller girls: Knock yourself out.

For which body type is it most difficult to find a good denim fit?

You tell us:

  • Classic
  • Hourglass
  • Pear-shaped
  • Plus-sized
  • Slender
  • Tall
  • Petite
