Hating the Look: Lady Gaga

Last Friday, Lady Gaga showed up at the 2009 Billboard Magazine Rising Star Award at The Pierre in New York wearing this *wrinkling my nose* sheer hair and feather-covered costume monstrosity dress. “It’s from an up-and-coming new London designer,” she said. Keep designing like this Holly Russell and your career will be over before it began.

I'd love to see your fashion sense. I know the designer has already been commissioned to make more clothes for GaGa and more.

Lets compare your careers in 10 years.

Dear Mercedes,

You’re named after a bloated German sedan and you live out your delusions of grandeur on a flaccid website dedicated to a basic, coarse fabric associated with the fattest and least stylish country in the world.

F**k your life.

Well, when deciding on good fashion. It comes down to whether you trust nicola formichetti or 'mercedes' from jean-o-type.

I certainly know who i'll be listening too.

Good work.

I love this. She looks fantastic.

This blog, does not.

Wow, you must really truly hate my blog (and your life) to have spent over 30 minutes of your time writing comments on a "flaccid...blog [that] does not...look fantastic." Hey Anonymous, relax! Fashion is supposed to be FUN!!!

Now, let me give YOU some "facts":

"coming from someone who has a denim background on there website says it all really. looks as though you have a great career....."
Fact: First of all, I do this for fun. Its MY blog. This is MY forum to discuss MY opinions as to what I like and what I dislike concerning fashion choices. It isn't mandatory that you read it nor that you agree. Secondly, my goal isn't to convince everyone that I am THE authority on fashion...nobody is. Fashion is a matter of personal tastes, and in MY blog, I express MY own. I do happen to be viewed as a fashionable person by most though. So um, Anonymous, I mean, Bitter, party of one??? Your table is ready!

"I'd love to see your fashion sense. I know the designer has already been commissioned to make more clothes for GaGa and more."
Fact: I'm sure you would love to see it. If you decide to stalk me as hard as you're stalking my posts, you'll find me and see exactly how I dress. Then what? Either you like it or you don't. Does it matter to me either way? Nope. As for Holly, I sincerely think its great for her that she has been sought out to design more garments for "GaGa and more." I LOVE it when people successfully live their dreams, but both Holly and I know that when she sets out to design something, not everybody (or even most in the case of this dress) are going to like it...same as for my blog. Her goal with this garment was likely to garner GaGa and herself some publicity...which she has evidently done. So you certainly should be able to find some joy in that??? Please google "artistic expression" and apply there and here...thanks.

"They look more like beetle wings to me. Maybe get your facts straight....."
Fact: Key words being "look more like beetle wings to....ME." But to ME, writer of this blog (and WWD btw), they look like feathers.

"Dear Mercedes,

Fact: Not so, friend. I wasn't actually named after the car, and if you do a little research, you'll find that the car you're referencing was named after Daimler's daughter...that's right, a person. You'll also find that Mercedes is a name of Spanish origin that is a reference to the virgin Mary...and last I heard, she existed just a wee bit before the car.

"Well, when deciding on good fashion. It comes down to whether you trust nicola formichetti or 'mercedes' from jean-o-type.

Fact: When deciding on "good fashion," you shouldn't "trust" me, Nicola, or anyone else in deciding what YOU like, you should trust yourself. Be a leader, not a follower.

Lastly, Bitter/Anonymous I am honored and thank you for spending SO much of your time here today, and that my post evoked such strong passion that it strongly compelled you to write comments (these are actually my goals). However, I will paraphrase my comment message to all readers (including yourself): While I sincerely appreciate you visiting my blog, giving your critique (supporting or against), and challenging my opinions as I love a good banter and that's what blogging is all about, any personal attacks/offensive comments towards myself are subject to be deleted. If you're going to come onto MY blog, give some respect to myself and my readers. Keep it about fashion, or keep the hell out. While you are always welcome here, your profanity and ignorance are not...ever. NOW, you have a blessed fashion faux-pas free day!
