Heat Stroke Chic

Here we have repeat offender, Ciara wearing Hammer pants and what looks like the skin of a boa constrictor as a scarf. I looked up the weather in NYC yesterday (she was at the Operation Smile 2009 event), and it was a high of 71 degrees with a low of 51 degrees. Now, I wouldn't wear this unless I was cold, naked, and therefore desperate in the wild, but there is NO reason for her to be so oblivious to season-appropriate fashions!

Her comments on trying to be fashion forward made me believe that she was stepping up her game and would attempt to give fashionista celebs like Rihanna a run for her money...I was terribly mistaken.

Trend Alert: Denim jackets

Denim jackets are back with a vengeance! Dark washes, light washes, cropped, sleeves rolled up (seems to be the most popular way to wear it), sleeves worn down, with jeans, with leggings, with maxi dresses...ANYTHING GOES!

Rihanna loves hers:

So does Nicole Richie:

What I love about denim jackets is that you can throw them in your bag and not worry about looking crazy wrinkled and disheveled when you want to slip it on!

Oops...she did it again

So, does anybody who reads this blog know Ciara's people? If so, I would like you to pass along the word that we are not feeling her "heat stroke chic" looks *shout out to Daron*. Leather and thigh-high boots should have been stored away last month at the latest. It has to feel weird putting on sandals one day and then throwing on your thigh-high boots the next...

Here she is in New York wearing her signature uniform:

And yes, these are BOTH from last night.

Fit in your jeans by Friday???

Kim Kardashian has figured out a new way to exploit promote her much talked about figure by releasing a 3-DVD workout DVD series on May 9th called Fit in Your Jeans by Friday.

Her trainers, Jennifer Galardi and Patrick Goudeau uh, I mean Kim, "styles workouts to: chisel that core (the boyfriend jean), whittle those abs (the cigarette jean), flaunt that backside (the high waisted jean), and have you trim and toned by the weekend."

Well, she might as well milk it...I aint mad. It was a different type of "tape" *wink* that hurtled her into fame in the first place. Now is this is any different from any other sexy celeb workout tape? I haven't the slightest idea. BUT, I DO think that the title is a great gimmick marketing technique to appeal to lazies who want big results (and unrealistic ones if you don't have the body type of Kim's anyway) in a hurry. Fit in your jeans by "Friday???" Which Friday? This Friday??? I don't think so. Maybe 5 Fridays from now...

Here's the trailer:

Fall '09 Trend Alert: Goth

Sooo, I kinda dogged some of the attendees of the 2009 Costume Institute Gala for their goth inspired looks - "Then we had what looked like a casting call for a Bram Stoker film..." Okay, so apparently, I'm behind on the new trend for fall - goth. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. From the popularity of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight book series, to HBO's True Blood series (both of which I am big fans of), people are obviously enthralled with vampire culture, so why wouldn't it inspire designers?

Yves Saint Laurent and Tao

Rodarte and John Galliano

Chanel

Quite naturally, black and dark plum lip color was seen on many runway shows, but before you are quick to dismiss it as theatrics only, check out Liya Kebede in her dark lip color. She is truly inspiring me to try this look...she looks gorgeous in it! If this is hitting a chord with you too, my suggestion is to take Liya's lead and wear it with colorful clothing rather than dark goth-inspired pieces...unless goth reflects your personal style, its Halloween, OR you're on your way to a rave.

You know what? After being enlightened to this trend and going back to my previous comment, I've decided to stick by it because I still don't like their interpretations of goth...at all.

So Nice Gotta Wear it Twice

So Michelle Obama IS fashionably conscious of the economy! On Tuesday, she was seen exiting the U.S. Mission to the United Nations in Manhattan (above picture is of her inside). She was wearing the same floral Tracy Feith dress that she was photographed wearing on January 27th for President Obama's first day in office (take that Lanvin haters and those choosing to ignore the First Family's gesture of declining White House redecoration funds!). See her first feature of the dress below:

Um...Tracy? You need to get your website up and running pronto because Michelle just PUT YOU ON THE MAP! Congratulations!

*deep sigh* I just had to guys!

I am so tired of reporting on what Rihanna is wearing, but the fact remains that she is wearing something pretty much everyday that keeps her style a topic of conversation. Sooo without further adieu:

Rihanna was out in Gramercy Park yesterday wearing this interesting ensemble. I love the jacket and the gloves, and I do like the leggings (although I'm surprised of the pairing with the denim shorts), but I think that this is truly an outfit for a celebrity to wear. Could anyone just wear this outfit...and get away with it?

Update: I did a little research on these leggings and they are from Rodarte's Spring 2009 show. So, if you likey, you can either get a pair for $920 at Opening Ceremony or if you're poor and crafty...ahem, like me, you will transform your oversaturated and played out shiny American Apparel leggings like Tiffany did at Six Six Sick Girls. Thanks Tiffany, you are a genius!
