Week in Denim

For once in a long time, Lindsay Lohan opted for a loose-fitting look. Cute jeans too!

Rihanna arrived at Milk studios in NYC. This is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon times that I don't like anything about her look. The hair, the outfit, and the boots don't do anything for me...or her.

I am really feeling Audrina's look. Its a very simple outfit of a tee, ripped jeans, and booties, but this just comes to show that a good fit  alone can make an outfit work.

Who says that white jeans are just for summer?! I don't believe in locking up your white clothing all fall and winter long, but you should at least mix them with seasonal trends...that means lose the white tee and flip-flops Heidi.

Blake Lively was seen on the set of Gossip Girl wearing some great jeggings:

Beyonce arrived in South Korea to perform. This is a fun look for her. I don't love it, but its fun.

So I'm not liking this preppy/rock look that Katie Holmes put together. Its very possible to effectively and fashionably mix trends, but there is nothing here to tie them together.

Ah, Victoria Beckham comes to the rescue to prove my point! THIS is how you mix two looks without looking like you just threw something on! The formal tuxedo jacket with the rocker cords looks fab!

Ashley Tisdale was seen wearing the cutest Siwy wash. I'm thinking I may have to get these...

The Ripped Denim Trend Continues...

I didn't pay this trend too much attention last spring and summer because there are always a few people who rock ripped denim despite its current trendworthiness. However, I can't ignore what is. So whether you choose to create your own or buy some pre-made (main photo is Siwy's Hannah Cropped Slim Jean, $196), there are plenty of options out there. Plus, the varying levels of distressing assure that both the fashion-forward and mildly conservative have comfortable options (although I don't think any woman who would consider wearing this trend would ever really be considered "conservative").

Denim Trend Spring 2009: The Boyfriend Jean

This style of jean is one of my least faves. The name indicates why...it looks like you threw on a pair of your boyfriend's jeans. I'm a petite girl, so I totally embraced the skinny jean and am deathly afraid to let it go. However, the style gods have spoken and they have decided that the loose fitting boyfriend jean is IN. So, let's make it work, ladies!

Here are some tips to fashionably wearing this jean without looking like a slouch:
* If you are going to create your own rather than buy (I'm leaning towards this
option), go to the thrift store. Or if you have a smaller boyfriend, just borrow
his...just make sure to wash them first! You know how guys do. A well-worn pair
will hang on your body better and look less boxy.
* To make the look more feminine, roll the bottom of the jeans up to expose a little
ankle, and wear w/a cute pair of sandals.
* If you decide to create a pair, rather than buy one, use a straight leg style
only! A skinny jean is going to look like a capri, and a bootcut or flare will look
pretty stupid since they flare out at the bottom.
* Balance the top part of your outfit with fitted pieces. They may be called
"BOYfriend jeans, but you're still a woman.
