Spring 2010 Trend: Less is More

The European shows indicate that a minimal look will be big in the spring. Monotone and muted tones as well as asymmetrical lines were seen all over the runways.

Here are some of the looks:

                     Celine                                                                                           Rick Owens

                Bottega Veneta                                                                                     Balenciaga

                     Akris                                                                                                 Fendi

                                                                                             Jil Sander

I am really enjoying some of these silhouettes, the Rick Owens and Bottega Veneta in particular, but from the looks of things, the shoes are pretty much the main cause for excitement.

Loving the Look: Rihanna

Rihanna is taking the ripped denim summer trend into fall by pairing with tights (in this case fishnets) underneath. I thought I wrote a post on this during the summer when I first read this would be a fall trend, but I couldn't find it, so apparently I didn't. Anyways, I LOVE this look and it is definitely a DIY look that you can create for yourself.

Boots to die for....

*sitting here with that starry eyed-look* This has absolutely nothing to do with denim, but I just had to report that I have fallen in love - with a striking, tall, dark, man I mean pair of boots!!! Check him them out!!!

These Stella McCartney leather perforated boots are at Neiman Marcus for $1595. So, I'm currently trying to figure out how many meals I need to skip to get these boots!!! JK...kinda.

Now if Ciara had been wearing these type of over-the-knee boots, I wouldn't have had anything but praises to sing about her!!!

Here are a few of my other faves:

Manolo Blahnik Cinched Nappa OTK Boot, $1895

Christian Louboutin Button-Up OTK Boot, $1995

Chloe Tied Leather OTK Boot, $1295

Trend Alert Fall/Winter 2009-2010: Thigh High Boots

*sigh of relief...kinda* So there is a method to the madness! It appears that Ciara is just trying to get a head-start on the upcoming thigh high boot trend for Fall/Winter 2009-2010. I love fashion-forwardness, and no CiCi, we will NOT forget how dedicated you were to beating us over the head with bringing in the trend WAAAAAAAAY before everyone else was wearing it, but come on now! You are bringing it in waaaaay before its time in the Spring!!!.......Ok, I'm calming down.ANYWAYS, feel free to go ahead and start wrapping your mind around this trend and how you will manage to pull it off without looking like you're soliciting your goods. My suggestion? Classy up top. Refrain from wearing the skimpy revealing pieces.Over-the-knee boots by Loewe, Hermes, Hussein Chalayan, and Louis VuittonThose Louis Vuitton's are HOT!Source:Thigh high boots / over the knee boots trend 2010 > Footwear & Shoes > Blog

Trend Alert: Light Denim

With warmer temperatures come lighter colors and jeans are no exception. In addition to gray denim, light-wash denim is re-emerging from the back of the closet.

Here's what Who What Wear had to say about the looks of the celebs above:
As for the light denim that's popular with paparazzi-favorites, we're happy to report that there's not a single shape or style dominating this trend thus far. Star stylist Rachel Zoe showed off one of the wider pairs when she stepped out in Los Angeles last month wearing 7 For All Mankind's Super Flare Jeans ($180) in Ibiza wash. Zoe expertly played with proportion in her outfit; we love how she layered a tunic-length tank and cropped Ralph Lauren jacket over her belled jeans. While her exact pair is from 7FAM's Spring 08 collection, Twenty8Twelve's Celine Flare Jeans ($290) or Mango's Birkin Jeans ($80) will give you a similar look. Or you could pick up 7 For All Mankind's classic Bell Bottoms ($125) in the California wash and fade them yourself!

In addition to wide-leg or bell-bottom options, some celebs, like Lindsay Lohan and Mischa Barton, opt for slim-and-shredded styles. Lohan was spotted in an ankle-zip pair of Balmain's Balmain Acid wash ripped jeans ($2165) with Givenchy's Open-Toe Elastic Cord Wedge Booties ($795) while en route to a meeting in LA last month. Meanwhile in London, Mischa Barton turned up at the launch of her new handbag line wearing ASOS' Iggy Full Ripped Skinny Jeans ($50) with an equally goth-gorgeous pair of shoes, specifically Alexander McQueen's Grommet Booties ($1249). J Brand's Acid Wash Ripped Jeans ($218) and Silence & Noise's Ripped Twig Jean ($68) approximate the look of Lohan's haute jeans, while Current/Elliott's The Skinny Jean ($224) offers a stateside variation on Barton's British pair.

Our final example for today's trend comes courtesy of Rihanna, who recently wore Vintage1's Skinny Jeans ($198) while out and about in Manhattan. The brand (previously known as Pratt's Motor Spirit) will hit Singer22.com shortly, so in the meantime you can contemplate what sort of accoutrement you want to wear with your moto-style jeans. Or if you're impatient, just check out Unknown Factory's Biker Skinny Jeans ($198). The detailing is subtler, but the shade is still super light. Either way, the look is out of this world…

Trend Alert: Denim jackets

Denim jackets are back with a vengeance! Dark washes, light washes, cropped, sleeves rolled up (seems to be the most popular way to wear it), sleeves worn down, with jeans, with leggings, with maxi dresses...ANYTHING GOES!

Rihanna loves hers:

So does Nicole Richie:

What I love about denim jackets is that you can throw them in your bag and not worry about looking crazy wrinkled and disheveled when you want to slip it on!

Fall '09 Trend Alert: Goth

Sooo, I kinda dogged some of the attendees of the 2009 Costume Institute Gala for their goth inspired looks - "Then we had what looked like a casting call for a Bram Stoker film..." Okay, so apparently, I'm behind on the new trend for fall - goth. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. From the popularity of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight book series, to HBO's True Blood series (both of which I am big fans of), people are obviously enthralled with vampire culture, so why wouldn't it inspire designers?

Yves Saint Laurent and Tao

Rodarte and John Galliano

Chanel

Quite naturally, black and dark plum lip color was seen on many runway shows, but before you are quick to dismiss it as theatrics only, check out Liya Kebede in her dark lip color. She is truly inspiring me to try this look...she looks gorgeous in it! If this is hitting a chord with you too, my suggestion is to take Liya's lead and wear it with colorful clothing rather than dark goth-inspired pieces...unless goth reflects your personal style, its Halloween, OR you're on your way to a rave.

You know what? After being enlightened to this trend and going back to my previous comment, I've decided to stick by it because I still don't like their interpretations of goth...at all.

Weekend Trend - The Cage Sandal

Womp, womp, wooommmp...it was a very SLOW weekend in denim *awww*, but I did notice that many were wearing the new sandal trend - the cage sandal.

Ciara rocked the most popular of the bunch by Yves Saint Laurent:

Beyonce had on a silver pair...looking cute Bey!

Kim Kardashian had on a super-cute version by Giuseppe Zanotti (Please ignore all of the celebrity distraction in the background of this pic. I don't know what was going on with this hodge-podge of celebrity action so I've decided to just ignore it):

And Estelle wore some too...I'm not sure of the designer, but if you know, please share:

My suggestion is to follow Kim's lead on this trend. If you're going to wear these, please go with a bold polish...otherwise, it kinda looks like you just threw them on. These sandals make a bold statement so no pussyfooting here...GO BOLD or GO HOME!!!

Although they didn't do anything too special with their jeans, Ciara and Christina Milian didn't let us down on the jean front:

Rainy and Gray

With the coming of spring's warm weather, many like to shy away from denim jeans, especially the darker washes because they can make you look too hot (in a bad way, not the good way). Well fortunately for us, there is a great Spring-y alternative that still gives the clean look of darker denim - gray denim!

I LOVE gray denim because it is more versatile than most blue denim not only because it serves as a neutral, but because there are so many variances in hue. You can wear them with whatever color top and/or shoes (although pairing w/gray can looked washed out). Its like having several pairs of white or black jeans!

Taylor Momsen

Eve

Ciara's all gray blase outfit was saved by her colorful Louis Vuitton sandals:

And for those of you who are expecting, you can get in on the trend too with these J&Company Beverly Rocks Thunder jeans:

Even Michael Jackson is getting in on this trend! LOL, nothing against Michael (I still love him), but I couldn't help myself when I saw this picture...
