Weekend in Denim

Audrina Patridge looks as if she just came from getting a pedi.

Mel B. and her husband Stephen. I would comment on their jeans, but I'm too distracted by this red lipstick that she, no HE is wearing. I don't see what is funny about this...

Halle Berry has switched up her classic look for a more edgy one and I'm feeling it!

Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz both rocking skinny jeans and tees.

So I suppose the rocker denim combo may be a new trend? Kelly Rowland was seen rocking it on the set of 50 Cent's new video, and so was Jay-Z.

Loving the Look: Jay-Z

Jay-Z was at DJ Cassidy's birthday party last night at the NY Public Library looking...dare I say it...cute! I'm LOVING this cardigan and am really feeling the less-constructed look when it comes to shapes of traditional garments. I also loved how he incorporated this look into HIS style.

Good look Jay!

Style War - Kanye vs. Jay-Z

Complex magazine conducted a poll titled Style War, to determine the best dressed rapper of 64 nominated (I can't even think of 5 whose styles are worth voting for). It came down to Kanye West and Jay-Z, and of course the winner was...KANYE! You can't really compare their style though. It would've been much more fun to compare two fashion-forward candidates such as Kanye and Andre 3000, but the public did the voting so apparently it was just a popularity contest although Kanye's controversial fashion won out. Here are some of their more recent looks:

Jay-Z:

Kanye:

Nuff said.

Denim Alert: Painted and Bleached

I first heard about the coming on this trend about 2 years ago at a Denim Trend seminar in Las Vegas at the MAGIC tradeshow. Supposedly, we were supposed to see the look last year, but it never really came around. Well, it finally looks as if it painted and tie-dyed jeans have arrived.

The ones shown above are from Miss Sixty's Fall/Winter 2009 fashion show, and they are extrememly embellished and downright edgy. I'm not quite sure if those that will be produced and sold for retail will be so detailed as we're seeing the celebs in a more watered-down version...but perhaps they are just introducing us to the trend gradually???

Baby Phat and Charles Anastase featured their versions as well:

Siwy and Sass & Bide have their more conservative versions already:

Here are Jay-Z and Fergie dabbing experimenting with the look below:

My suggestion for wearing these: be careful of what parts of the jean are detailed as it will draw the eye right to it. Therefore, if you have heavier thighs, I would pass on the Miss Sixty's.
