Obama Fashion Watch

SUMMER RETREAD: Talbots has gotten another shout-out from Michelle Obama. The First Lady, who wore Talbots’ rose print silk dress on the cover of the May issue of Essence, sported the dress again for a long flight to Moscow Sunday. (She actually changed for her arrival into a peach Narciso Rodriguez dress). Talbots sold 3,000 of the rose print dress after Obama wore it on the Essence cover. The dress, which arrived in stores in April, was originally $169. There are still some dresses left at Talbots’ stores and on its Web site, but after the wave of spring markdowns, it’s now available for $89.99.

Meanwhile, J. Crew is planning a rush for a few of the items worn in Moscow the next day by Malia and Sasha Obama. Malia, 11, exited Air Force One decked in a J. Crew tan silk taffeta trench ($298) with black satin ballet flats ($98). Her sister, eight, wore a matching Crewcuts crushed twill trench ($169.99) and a pair of printed navy ballet flats ($108).

 Malia’s J.Crew designs:
• Silk Taffeta Trench (14968, $298, Buff)
• Satin Ballet Flats With Contrast Trim (16028, $98, Black)

Sasha’s crewcuts designs:
• Girls’ Crushed Twill Trench (13100, $169.99, Buff)
• Girls’ Minna Printed Ballet Flats (16344, $108, Classic Navy)

They also wore J.Crew and crewcuts flats when boarding the plane stateside — Malia wore J.Crew Margorie Satin Ballet Flats (15933, $98) and Sasha wore Girls’ Minna Crackle-Metallic Ballet Flats (16341, $108, Metallic Gold).

Wild Weekend Looks

Solange wore some wild black and white leggings in New Orleans and Rhianna wore pasties as part of her outfit in Vegas.

Could a non-celeb get away with these looks???

The Men's Denim Tube Top???

Jean Paul Gaultier had men going down the runway...in denim tube tops!!! I would NOT allow my man, brother, friend, whoever to be traipsing around the city in a tube top of any sort!

Weekend in Denim

Hope you guys had a GREAT Fourth of July weekend. I know I sure did, which is why I'm just getting back. Here's what went on this past weekend...ok week, in denim.
Hayden Panetierre
Our girl, Amber Rose had on a denim jacket, her usual spandex (of course)... and MATCHING HAIR, sunglasses and watch.

Beyonce was out in Miami and took a quick dip in the ocean.

Halle, her boyfriend jeans, and family were spotted at LAX.

Rihanna was seen in ripped jeans as well as denim shorts with flats....I'm not really feeling the second look.

As you can see, the denim scene left much to be desired.

New Denim Line Alert: Mill Iron

The L.A.-based denim gurus (and identical twins) Chip and Pepper Foster launch Mill Iron this fall, an affordable denim collection exclusively for the Buckle retail chain. Mill Iron men's jeans retail for $98 to $111 (Chip & Pepper denim regularly retails for $180 and up). The initial jeans offerings include the "Sunraider" (relaxed leg button-fly) and the "Rally" (five-pocket straight leg).

“The $100 price point for a premium jean is, I think, a magic number,” said Chip Foster. “The way the economy is, people are looking for quality and price.”

After The Buckle’s exclusive one-season deal ends, the Fosters plan to expand distribution of Mill Iron selectively to their network of retailers, including Fred Segal, Bloomingdale’s and Atrium. A women's Mill Iron collection is set to debut later this year.

I can definitely appreciate designers like these adjusting to the economic times.

This Sasha is not that Fierce

Beyoncé and Tina Knowles are looking to capitalize more on Sasha Fierce.

Utilizing the name of the singer’s alter ego and third solo album, “I Am…Sasha Fierce,” the mother and daughter design team plans to launch a new junior apparel label, Sasha Fierce for Deréon, for back-to-school selling.

The collection, which is inspired by Beyoncé’s stage presence (she is on a world tour through November), includes a full range of sportswear, outerwear, handbags, footwear, eyewear, lingerie and jewelry. Positioned to sit alongside the company’s Deréon junior label, which is similarly priced, the line has so far been picked up by department stores including Macy’s and Dillard’s and specialty stores Jimmy Jazz and Against All Odds. The collection, Tina said, is “edgier and trendier and reflects Sasha Fierce’s daring and outgoing attitude.” The jewelry, shoes and eyewear, she added, “are really over the top” with large chains made in mixed metals such as silver with gold, heavily studded shoes and oversize sunglasses such as the ones Beyoncé has been seen wearing on tour. The clothes are a little more subdued to make the accessories stand out — a one-shoulder dress, black bodysuit, fake leather jacket with oversize collar, leggings and destructed jeans with mesh and lace details lining the ripped material. “When the tour started, we noticed the definite style of it,” Tina explained. “Thierry Mugler designed the clothes for the tour, but we really wanted to celebrate the style and interpret that into a collection.”

I am not an HOD fan, and I am not impressed with this either...
