Young, Black, and Fabulous: RUN IT: Rihanna vs. Christina Milian

One of my favorite blogs, theybf.com, challenged its readers to vote for who best rocked this denim and leather jacket...although, I don't think Christina was any competition for Rihanna.

And there go those Balmain shoes again. Better look this time around though...sorry Cassie.

New Denim Line Alert: Resin Denim

Chris Gilbert, co founder of Paper Denim & Cloth, is launching a new denim line, Resin Denim, which will launch for limited distribution this fall. The line will be in the $150 price range, and from the images in their lookbook, the line is going to be HOT. A seemingly great fit AND great washes. I wasn't a big PDC fan, but I'm pretty sure I will be all over the Resins!

Billion Dollar Babes 7 for All Mankind Sale

Sale ends tomorrow at 11:59pm CST! Sorry about the split picture, but since its a time-sensitive sale, I skipped Photoshop.

Warehouse Sale

This weekend, The Warehouse Sale will be in Chicago. The Warehouse Sale is a premium denim sample sale-type event that offers over 20,000 men and women's items for up to 80% off. They travel all over the U.S. (and internationally) for a weekend event that is usually located at the city's convention center. I've been to a couple of these and they are pretty hit or miss, and the size range isn't that large. So basically, if you have an easy-to-fit frame, you have a good chance of walking away with a purchase.

Keep in mind that if you want to try some of the new denim trends such as the Boyfriend Jean or Ripped and Bleached denim, you may want to go to find a good cheap pair to experiment with.

Weekend in Denim

This past weekend, the celebs were out and about showing us some cute looks (and not so cute looks) with their denim.

Our winner, Beyonce, was out with her hubby shopping in New York. Is she looking extra cute for their anniversary??? I don't know, but this is the first time that Bey is looking like she has a stylist...and I'm about to run out and get my suspenders pronto!

HOWEVER...that big silver bag with all of those gold accents in that outfit??? Uhhh yeah, it isn't doing ANYTHING for your look Bey...at all.

Rihanna sported a denim jacket and a cute pair of jeans over her travel-filled weekend...where are you going Rih? And what are you doing Rih? I SO want to know!

Now, at first I wasn't going to say anything about Bey's jeans tugging across her legs for dear life until I saw the perfect fit of Rihanna's. I think I should point this out. Now obviously, Bey is wearing a more rigid jean and not one with much stretch, but sometimes you gotta pass on doing something different and go with what's going to fare better for the overall look. And I think that with the polished look she was trying to achieve, she should've passed on these jeans. Unless she was going for a more laid-back look swapping the 6" YSL stilettos for some cute sneakers.

BTW, I'm really over Rih's 'do. Its just not doing it for me anymore. Time for the hair stylists to reconvene.

Now, I usually really REALLY love Cassie's style, but WTF is going on around the ankles of her jeans??? And with all of the detail on her shoes??? Its just too much.

UPDATE: Ah! Ok so I found out what was going on around the ankles of her jeans...the detail of her shoes!!! Here are a picture of the Balmain studded sandals she was rocking:

I feel much better now, but I still think its too much going on.

And I know, I know this has nothing to do with denim, but I just had to express my disappointment with Ms. Michelle's Prague wardrobe choice. What is this bow/belt combo? Uh uh.

'Do It Yourself' Jeans - Ripped & Bleached

Last month, I featured both the new ripped and tie-dye denim trends.

Denimology instructs us how we can make your own less expensive pair:

First up, bleached out skinnies with added rips. Childhood Flames has created a great pair with bleach and sandpaper. First up, either scrunch the jeans and put in a bucket of water with a little bleach in (try 5 parts water to one part bleach), and leave for about an hour. The better made the denim, and the darker the shade, the longer it will take to bleach out. Rinse with water (some people recommend vinegar to stop the bleach acting on the denim) and dry. Then attack with sandpaper if you want rough rips (and some pilling on the denim), or just nick a hole with scissors and rip with your fingers. The rips will fray more when you wash your jeans, so best to start small.

Yay!!! I'm definitely going to try this (w/one of my soon-to-be retired pairs) so I'll be sure to post pictures of the results.

Fantasy Ride

For Ciara's new album, Fantasy Ride, she enlisted celebrity stylist, Mariel Haenn to work with her on videos, including “Go Girl” and “Love Sex Magic,” as well as for most press and other appearances. “I really wanted to try her,” Ciara says. “She’s young and she’s new and I felt she was on to some really cool things.” Mariel is also Rihanna's stylist (Ciara is obvioulsy trying to step her game UP).

Coining her alter ego, "Supa C" (hated it), she is being very supportive of newer designers with innovative styles. “It’s almost like myself — I’m young and haven’t been doing this for a long, long time, so I relate [to young designers]. It’s cool to see them get opportunities to share their creative visions and to actually be successful at it...There is a lot of new energy and a lot of new ideas that these designers are bringing...It’s also cool to know what’s coming, to kind of be on top of something in the early stages.”

Will Ciara be able to use her Fantasy Ride transformation to catapult her style to a level that will allow her to join the ranks of fashionistas like The Emancipation of MiMi did for Mariah? (although her sometimes tackalicious style is clearly debatable) Or Good Girl Gone Bad for Rihanna?

Will CiCi join MiMi and Rih Rih? We shall si!
