Red Carpet: The 2010 American Music Awards

Sunday, the 2010 American Music Awards took place and *gasp* for the first time in a looong time, I saw more good looks than bad! The celebs have definitely stepped up their style-game this time around...and I hope they keep it coming!

The Good

I thought that newlywed Katy Perry looked very pretty in a pink Badgley Mischka Couture gown. I guess we can thank Russell for that glow that she's emanating.

Kelly Osborne has really been doing an amazing job at consistently keeping her fab! Her hair and makeup gave her a soft feminine look, and this Dior gown looked amazing on her! The only part of her look that kept her from flawlessness are those awful tattoos. Ugh.

I don't frequently wave the Keri flag, but right about now I am TEAM KERI! Keri Hilson looked gorgeous in this Sammy B gown and was accessorized perfectly.

I'm still trying to figure out what the back of this gown was doing (I pray to God that it isn't a bow and wouldn't think the folks at Marchesa would do that), but from the front view, Miley Cyrus was stunning! The 18-year old has finally transitioned into adulthood, and it suits her!

Parents-to-be, Pink and Carey Hart get my Cutest Couple award of the evening. And sorry Pink, but Carey was bringing the umph that night. He looked pretty darn hot.

This is the one and only time you will hear me say that Rihanna's fiery red 'do looks good BUT, I'm not giving her the credit. I still maintain it is a bad decision and needs to go ASAP. For the life of me, I cannot understand why she won't let it go. However, for this moment only, I'm giving the credit to Elie Saab for creating a beautiful gown that happened to match this hair, and Rihanna's hair stylists who made this hair look real for once and saved it from its usual Raggedy Annish state. This is the Rhi Rhi I miss.

Is it just me or lately has Jada Pinkett Smith managed to look like a little bronze Emmy award on every red carpet?...Oh well, this was no exception. She glowed (literally and figuratively) in this custom Emilio Pucci gown...and she certainly always knows how to accessorize.

The Bad

This gown that Christina Milian is wearing is doing everything, but IT. I just don't understand...why is there so much going on?Do I look at the embellished shoulders or the sheer cleavage or the shape that the silver material creates? Do I try to figure out if the sheer material is lace, chiffon, or both? Should I wonder if a simple shoe/boot would've fared better than that matchy embellished shoe? Well you know what? I don't know, I'm tired of thinking, my eyes are tired, and I give up! Let's just say that her hair and makeup look great...NEXT!!!

Cheryl Burke looks great from the waist up...stunning really. The gown is pretty and is a great color too. It wasn't, however, the best pick for her body type because it accentuates her wider hips and emphasizes unbalanced proportions. Oh, and I give two thumbs down for the shoes.

Now you guys know I love me some Heidi Klum, and I hate to do this, but this dress is looking a little weird to me. Perhaps its just a bad photo (I mean, we all know Heidi has an amazing body), but why does her rise (the area between the waist and crotch) look so darn LONG?! It looks like the torso of a mannequin.

"So I'm just going to go get my nails done, have lunch with a friend, and maybe stop by the AMA's..." Yeah, that's what I imagined Natasha Bedingfield saying earlier that morning. In general, nothing is wrong with this outfit...but that's just it, its an OUTFIT....at the A-M-A's. On a positive note, I'd love to wear this to work.

The Ugly

For a moment, lets just forget that the pairing of these pieces is ALL wrong; just please observe that this is...a guy.If you're a guy and want to wear women's apparel....Ok, I guess. Just please make sure you bring it.

Nicki Minaj.*sigh* So much too say, but so very little desire to bother saying it.

Phoebe Price...ditto.

Wow, somebody needs a hit song...and fast. Ke$ha is trying to steal a page from Lady GaGa's book on maintaining the spotlight. #fail

The Miscellaneous

There was nothing outstanding about Stana Katic's look. Obviously, she looks great, but her hair? Oh, that hair! It looks like it came straight out of a Pantene ad! I love it!

The Black Eyed Peas look just that...miscellaneous. I sometimes wonder if they discuss what they are wearing before they go to events or if they just go for it...

The Smith Kids. I mean, really...did you expect them to come in a gown and tux?

Taylor Swift's ensemble isn't doing anything for me (or her), but her hair and makeup look fabulous!

The Men

Ok Ne-Yo! I like! Formal brown is a tricky color to work with, but he definitely pulls this off from head to toe.

Very nice, but Trey Songz just always looks good.

Aw, isn't this cute? Boy bands, Backstreet Boys AND New Kids on the Block got together for a group photo. Why so many ill-fitted pants though?

Battle of the Wardrobe

As a young child, I was never a frilly, pretty-in-pink girly-girl. I preferred cute separates in bold colors...and fortunately for me, so did my mother. However, bold colors were about the only thing my mom and I had in common in determining what should be in my wardrobe. I remember us going head-to-head about a lot of things. There were a few larger battles that come to mind...

The Battle of the Uniform

Black/white saddle shoes, blouses, skirt sets, and dresses were must-have staples in my back-to-school wardrobe. Mind you, I didn't even have to wear a uniform school but apparently my mother wanted me to look like it. She could care less if I looked "cool."

The Battle of the "Playclothes"

Because what's worse than wearing clothes you didn't really like in the first place? Old, outgrown, and often elasticized clothing that you hated and now had to put on as after-school gear to wear around the house. I could not catch a break.

The Battle of the Boys' Pants

The two pairs of navy and tan cargo cords that came from the boys' section. "I don't want these! These are boys' pants!" I exclaimed. "No they're not," my mom said. Oh they were definitely boys' pants, but my mother had decided she liked them so I was going to wear them. Fortunately for my budding self esteem, none of the other kids my age seemed to notice as I don't remember being teased about them.

The Battle of the Punky Brewster Sneakers

I may have lost the war, but I won this battle! I loved all things Punky Brewster, and when those high-top converse-like pink, blue, and all kinda color sneakers came out, I had to have them. My mother? Not pleased, but she gave in. Looking back on those and some other things I would've chosen to wear, I see that my mother had my very best interests at heart...because I had a tendency to gravitate towards tackaliciousness. So here are one of those moments where you look back and say "Ha! My mom was right..." Who would've thunk it...

So, here my I am as my adult self. I am all about fashion and self-expression and I still don't believe that little girls have to be dressed in pink and boys in blue. I do, however, believe that I no longer have a penchant for tackaliciousness. So I'm looking at some of the fun free-spirited kids today and I wonder..."Several years from now, will they cringe at their fashion choices?" and "To what extent should a parent dictate their child's style?" Let's examine a few kids from two of my favorite families: The Jolie-Pitts and The Smiths.

Shiloh Jolie-Pitt

What a little cutie. She's all that we expected she'd be and more. Over the past few months, this little one has adopted her own look...and its everything BUT girly. I really like and admire that at such a young age, Shiloh can look at her big sis Zahara in her girly dresses and be independent enough to say she doesn't want to wear that too. However, many (including myself) have raised an eyebrow at Shiloh Jolie-Pitt's recent wardrobe choices. Its not that she's not dressing like a little girl, but she's almost dressing like a metrosexual...man. Lets be honest, the kid has style. If this were a little boy, he'd be on the Best Dressed Kids list. BUT, he is a she.

This is what Angelina had to say about it:

"Shiloh, we feel, has Montenegro style," she said. "It's how people dress there. She likes tracksuits, she likes [regular] suits. She likes to dress like a boy. She wants to be a boy. So we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys' everything. She thinks she's one of the brothers."

So here are my questions: Do you think Angelina and Brad are going too far with allowing these wardrobe choices? Or do you think that more parents should be this encouraging of their children walking to the beat of their own drum? If Shiloh was a little boy who wanted to wear girls' clothes, do you think they'd go with similar free-spirited antics and allow him to wear dresses? And WTF is "Montenegro style???"

Willow and Jaden Smith

One word comes to mind when I think about these kids - pizzazz. These kids aren't just wearing outfits, they are setting trends. Rumor even has it that they may be coming out with their own clothing lines soon.

Their looks are a little wild. I don't know one single kid that could go to school with these outfits and come home unscathed. But the reality is that these kids aren't going to regular school. And nobody can say much of anything because their mom is fab, their dad is Will Smith, and they can buy any little punk that tries to come at them with that day's lunch money.

So here is my question: Would you allow your kid to dress in this style or would you want them to conform to one that's more traditional?

I hope my mom is reading this because I'd like her thoughts on this too. I really applaud these kiddies because I believe that its not so much what they are wearing, its that they are confident enough to do it.

Red Carpet: The 2010 Emmy Awards

Yesterday, the 2010 Emmy Awards took place and none of the looks were really standout to me. Everybody in general looked...nice. This doesn't mean I am devoid of opinions, however:

The Good

Jayma Mays looked great in this Burberry gown. I love the gown, I love the fit, and I love navy. Kudos to Jayma!

Kim Kardashian wore a Grecian-inspired Marchesa gown. Kim is a master of red carpet looks, she ALWAYS looks gorgeous.

I thought Claire Danes looked radiant in this soft-pink sequin gown. Her hair and skin color really accentuated the overall color palette.

Rutina Wesley went a little overboard on the body oil and I am not feeling the shoes, but she looks fabulous in this dress. The fit is wonderful!

The Bad

Anna Paquin wore this Alexander McQueen gown that had all the makings for me to love it...but, something went wrong with the skirt. The seam at the waist and the awkward cut of the front hem makes me uncomfortable. Oh, and I think Anna should've eased up on the chunky bracelets due the heavy embellished neckline.

Dianna Agron in Carolina Herrera. No, your computer is not making you see double...its the dress. I either want to snatch off that bottom skirt, stitch the top skirt into the bottom one, or put an unattractive woman in it because it looks funny and draws the eye away from the face.

January Jones...this gown looks kinda off, doesn't it? The "Like a Virgin" Madonna-esque bodice, the heavy train, and black shoes are just turning. me. off.

I've seen Lo Bosworth put more effort into a night out at Area nightclub.Come on girl! This is the Emmy Awards!

The Ugly

Christina Hendricks really upsets me. She has such an amazing figure and doesn't know how to work it. She can wear stuff that most women can't, yet she wears stuff that no woman should.

Lauren Graham's gown is looking very fashion school projectish.

The Miscellaneous

Uh oh! Is navy one of the hot colors?! I sure hope so. We've got another one - Lea Michele's navy Oscar de la Renta isn't the hottest gown, but she looks great in it.

Heidi and Seal always look good...that is all.

The Men

John Krasinski is definitely outshining his woman in Prada.

The quintessential man on and off-screen, Jon Hamm shows us how dapper he is Giorgio Armani.

I'm liking the pairing of Peter Facinelli's white tie with his Dolce & Gabbana tux.

Mark Salling looks interesting in Calvin Klein. It looks more wet than shiny...like leather or something. I hope it looked better in person.

I'm not a fan of Nelsan Ellis' look either. I think if we took away the hat and the bow tie, we'd be off to a good start.

The Male Skinny Jean: Adopt or Drop?

Today, the Chicago Redeye featured an interesting article on skinny jeans and the mainstream man. I recall that even before men's skinny jeans first hit the denim scene, they were first associated with the rocker and skater types who had already adopted this item as their everyday wardrobe staple. It wasn't "fashionable" and it damn sure wasn't "hot." This wasn't a man you would date...it was a man we'd say was going through some immature "phase" in life. And for the record, Lenny Kravitz is the exception that proves this rule, thank you very much.

However this time around, the resurgence of the skinny jean became associated with the stylish, primping, metrosexual male. For some women, it was still a miss, but for many of us, It. Was. A. Hit. Its actually been quite pleasurable to see David Beckhams and Mehcad Brooks' wearing the quadricep-hugging, gluteal-contouring...but I digress. *wiping my brow*

Now, with more "masculine" male-figures such as Olympian, Shaun White and rapper, Lil Wayne embracing the trend, making the skinny jean more of a wardrobe basic than a fashion statement, we must bring into question: Now that the "trend" has become mainstream, is it time for the skinny jean to be a look men adopt, or drop?

Jim Moore, Creative Director at GQ claims the popularity of skinny jeans continues to rise. "There's a lot of guys out there wearing skinny jeans. It's not that revolutionary anymore because it's been around for awhile...But maybe for the average guy, they're starting to wake up to it just now."

Yeah Jim, but when you say "average guy," that scares me. I don't want to see the average guy in a pair of skinny jeans. As a matter of fact, I don't even think every girl should wear skinny jeans. Everybody can't do it. I've committed a large part of my life pointing out those who can. So for men, I'm especially discriminating. It takes a certain build, style, and swag to pull off this look, and placing the skinny jean in the path of every clueless shopping male is a recipe for disaster. Think about it...David Beckham in skinny jeans??? Oh yeah! Jack Black in skinny jeans??? Oh hell to the no!

A Pain in the Boob

This past Wednesday, President Obama and our first lady, Michelle, hosted a White House dinner for Mexico's first couple, President Felipe Calderon and his wife, Margarita Zavala.

Michelle looked amazing in a shimmering blue gown designed by Chicago-based designer, Peter Soronen. She's also worn one of his designs to a Presidential Ball and their first black tie dinner (see below right). President Obama looked quite dapper too!

While Peter's designs look fabulous on her figure, I couldn't help but notice that the bodices don't fit that great. I'm 99.9% sure she has dents in her boobies at the end of the night.

Red Carpet: 2010 Costume Insitute Gala

Last night, the 2010 Costume Institute Gala took place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Here is my rundown on the looks.

The Good

Coco Rocha - I wish we could redesign the body of the dress because it does nothing for the train. The train, however?! Looks like flowing water...gorgeous!

Ingrid Vandebosch - Wife of Jeff Gordon, is doing pregnancy fabulously!

Oprah Winfrey - Is in custom Oscar de la Renta. I love the color navy.

Anne Hathaway - This dress is a little Disney princess-ish, but she looks great.

Giselle Bundchen - In custom Alexander Wang. She looks hot!

Iman - Looks gorgeous (as usual) in Prada.

Jessica Alba - This Sophie Theallet gown is my fave of the evening!

Naomi Campbell - In Dolce & Gabbana. This woman does no wrong...when it comes to fashion ;-)

Natasha Poly - This Michael Kors gown has a very different silhouette with this blousy top and fitted skirt, but I'm loving it!

Cassie - Her entire outfit (minus the shaved scalp) is on point!

The Bad

Ivanka Trump - Again, the train doesn't match the body of the dress, but unlike Coco Rocha's, neither piece is really all that great...and quite frankly, the train is downright ugly. The dress fits her well though...

Lily Collins - The color of the gown is gorgeous, but the embellishments look like a child made a craft project out of it.

Margherita Missoni - This "dress" looks like a skirt and top...and neither are cute.

Blake Lively - I want to like the dress...but, its just not very flattering.

Christina Hendricks - Is that a squirrel on her shoulder???

Rachel Zoe - I don't know if this gown is just all wrong (mustard color velvet has never been hot), or if its just all wrong for her small frame.

The Ugly

Carey Mulligan - This look gets the frump-a-dump-dump award.

Joy Bryant - I just want to rip those darn sleeves off!

Mila Kunis - What was the method to this poofy madness???

Georgina Chapman - Note: Eva Longoria never disappoints, but she should've schooled her pal Georgina. All of this fluff and bows is just too much!

Katy Perry - Oh nooo! Is this a florescent dress? *barf*

Karolina Kurkova - This dress is just tackalicious...and the gold shoes don't help.

Kristen Stewart - I think somebody (well anybody w/some skin color) could've pulled this dress off...Kristen wasn't the one.

Miuccia Prada - Where do I start? I just hate it.

The Miscellaneous

Jennifer Lopez - Nothing to fantastic about the gown, but she is consistently gorgeous on the red carpet.

Anna Wintour

Diane Kruger - I'm really surprised (and personally disappointed) that Diane went for the understated look this time around. I so look forward to her amazing looks.

Chanel Iman - I don't particularly care for this fit on her, but this Michael Kors jumper is really hot and Chanel looks beautiful still.

Men

Diddy - I think the pants are a wee bit too baggy, but Diddy will always be the man.

Penn Badgley - Now this is well-fitting from top to bottom...Penn looks great!

Hating the Look: Good Girls Gone Bad

*deep sigh* This makes me sad. This is sooo unlike her! What are these? Skants??? A Pirt??? I don't know and don't need to because they shouldn't even exist.

Offender #2: Rihanna

I really enjoy effortless looks, but we shouldn't take the word "effortless" literally. No one, not even a superstar could pull this outfit off. And Rihanna is NO exception.

Offender #3: Gwen Stefani

What in the sheer h***?! While I must admit that I don't always enjoy her looks, she usually does much better than this.

Alicia Keys looked laid back and cute arriving in London for the Haiti benefit concert in a pair of her favorite jeans.

Brandy, who will soon be back on tv for a reality show featuring her and her brother, stepped out wearing a pair of cute skinny jeans.

Um, I can't even look past her fab abs to see her jeans..

Dakota Fanning is sporting a more mature style these days.

Hayden Panetierre looked chic and elegant.

Kelly Rowland looks great in these black wax-wash jeans.

From head to toe, I LOVE Kim's look!

Ordinarily, I would think that the pants and boots are too detailed to be combined, but paired with a plain tee, this is a really cute look.

R.I.P. Alexander McQueen

As you may already know, the fabulous designer, Lee Alexander McQueen was found dead in his London home yesterday. He was only 40 years old. The cause of death was suicide. The method of suicide - hanging.

I, like others have to say I am stunned and saddened. No, I did not personally know him, but I did know his work and can honestly say that the fashion world lost a creative genius.

WWD has done a great job on coverage and keeping us posted on this tragedy. Here are some thoughts from other designers on McQueen's death:

Milliner Philip Treacy (who created fantastical hats for the designer’s shows): “In a world where every man and his dog is a designer, Alexander McQueen was the real deal...His talent was supersonic.”

John Galliano: “McQueen was daring, original, exciting...He shook up the establishment with his creativity and understood what it takes to be a great British ambassador for fashion. I admired him very much."

Karl Lagerfeld: It’s a loss for the fashion industry...His story was one of success and talent, but that may not be enough to keep you alive.”

Jean Paul Gaultier: “I am really saddened by Lee’s passing on a human level, but also on the artistic one...A great talent has left us and we will miss him and everything that he has done for fashion.”

Stella McCartney: “Lee was a fashion genius. I don’t say that lightly, and it is a total shock that I am referring to him in the past tense...”

Frida Giannini (Gucci creative director): "I have always admired Lee...He had a way of approaching fashion — both as a tailor and as an inventor — that was all his own. He was an enormous talent whose creative genius will forever remain in the history of fashion.”

What his emotional issues were remain unknown, but many believe he was reeling from the death of his mother. McQueen's mother had passed away 9 days before his death, and her funeral was scheduled for today. According to a source, McQueen had recently tweeted: “sunday evening been a ----ing awful week but my friends have been great but now i have to some how pull myself together and finish with the…”

I just LOVE awards season, don't you?! The 16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Award ceremony was this past weekend, and unlike the Golden Globes, there was no rain. So there were no exceptions given for subpar red carepet looks.

The Good

Sandra Bullock looked beautiful. This dress fit her beautifully.

Jennifer Carpenter really brought it this time around...tres chic! I'd also like to give kudos to one of my fave actors, Michael C. Hall who is recovering from a battle with cancer. He looks great too!

Christina Applegate looks radiant in Roberto Cavalli.

Here is my girl, Diane Kruger dressed in Jason Wu.

Ok now! We see you Lea Michele! A beautiful gown in a beautiful color!

I don't love Marion Cotillard's dress or the shoes on their own, but together they make a fabulous look.

The Bad

What is up with Drew Barrymore and her quest to find the most unflattering gowns as possible?

The fit of Jane Krakowski's gown is wrong. She has a nice shape, but you wouldn't know it because the waistline and side/front seam make her look wider. However, I'm sure this dress looks fabulous from one particular angle...this isn't it though.

The gown Paula Patton is supercute...for a post-conception wedding gown.

The Ugly

Carrie Preston's dress is just all wrong. The style, proportions, print....just wrong.

The Miscellaneous

So Anna Kendrick didn't bring it like I thought she would, but she's still supercool.

Dianna Agron's dress is very...interesting. I don't think I love it (I think I need to see it from all angles live to determine what's up with that draped piece), but she looks gorgeous.

Meryl Streep embodies class and sophistication.

The Men (per the request of EGB2)

Cuba Gooding Jr. looked really dapper...from the neck down. His barber has failed him.

Aw man, JT! You've let me down with this look. Its looking a little country.

*deep sigh* When bad tailoring happens to good people... The poor fit of John Krasinski's pants has failed his entire look.

Adam Lambert could've used a little more steam to knock the wrinkles out of those pants, but I really do like his look. Looks like he's giving Prince and his heel-style a run for his money too.

Tom Ford looks great...but did you really think he wouldn't???

Hating the Look: Amber Rose

GTM: Giggling to Myself

This photo and article posted on NY Mag's The Cut made me giggle to myself this morning, and I thought I'd share. Here is Jean Paul Gaultier photographed with Chris Brown after his boxing-inspired runway show yesterday in Paris.

{The show}, in which the models were made up to appear battered and bloody. Gaultier walked the runway for the finale, jolly as ever, in the same makeup, appearing as though he'd just taken a few swift hits to the face. And who should pose beside him after the show but Chris Brown? Of course, Brown pleaded guilty to felony assault last year. And surely the photos of Rihanna that surfaced after the Grammys are not too distant a memory for many. So, this is one hell of an awkward photo op — the birth of awkward, if you will.

*tapping his shoulder* Um Chris? Where are you people and why didn't they keep you from making this poor choice of a photo op??? Its too soon...WAY too soon. SMH and GTM

Red Carpet: 2010 Golden Globes

Sunday night marked the 67th Golden Globe Award Ceremony and the celebs were out on the red carpet...getting completely rained on. So while I will take the poor weather into consideration for looks and hair that seemed to have fallen flat, I still think weather preparedness is key and won't cut them too much slack ;-)

The Good

I think Fergie looked gorgeous. I love that she's not afraid to go with hard looks, but can just as easily pull off soft looks as well.

I don't know if Lindsay Lohan went to the actual award ceremony, but I really love this gown she wore to one of the parties.

Olivia Wilde's gown photographed much better than it looked live. I guess this is smart though because the picture lasts much longer than the moment.

Toni Collette, looked like the true winner she was that night. BTW, if you have not yet seen The United States of Tara, you really should check it out...she's such an amazing actress!

Paula Patton is well on her way to being a shining example of prenatal fabulosity.

The Red Dress - every awards has one. This time around, the winner for me is Maria Menounos.

The Bad

I really didn't like Sofia Vergara's gown. I liked the colors, but the dress itself looked stiff and uncomfortable.

Nicole Kidman is such an elegant woman she can never really look "bad," but if I saw this dress and all of its bows on a hanger, you couldn't give it to me for free.

Who knew Mad Men co-star Christina Hendricks had such a voluptuous figure? I sure didn't, but I do know one thing, its too much puff and frills in this picture and the color does nothing for her complexion. I would've put this dress in The Ugly, but my favorite Project Runway winner, Christian Siriano ~~designed~~ constructed it so not only am I biased, but I don't hold him 100% accountable. She admitted he let her give her input on color and design which made it a "bad" decision. Stick to your craft Christina...

I like Cameron Diaz...but not this dress.

What the heck is that thing protruding from Drew Barrymore's hip? Unless she's trying to hide a colostomy bag under there, it is serving no true purpose, but to take away from her look.

Penelope Cruz and her multi-fabric dress....what can I say? Her hair looks nice...

Frump-a-dump-dump. Jenna Fisher could've done better than this.

Not only is the dress pretty fugly, but did you forget your shoes Elizabeth?

The Ugly

The bodice of AnnaLynne McCord's gown looks like two hands are grabbing her breasts...hated it.

Who is responsible for this?! Julianne Moore's gown looks like it was designed and constructed in my high school fashion class...sorry Balenciaga.

Jessica Lowndes...nope. Its all wrong...ALL WRONG.

Don't even look at the dress...I didn't. Why not you ask? Because those tights are scaring me!

The Miscellaneous

Live, Sandra Bullock's dress looked better than bad (the color was much prettier than it looks in photographs as well), but I think her hair and makeup looked radiant!

I'm assuming Ashley Tisdale didn't go the ceremony and wore this just for the party. If this is truly the case, I think she looks supercute!

I personally don't like Jennifer Morrison's gown (it makes me crave cake with heavy icing), but my boyfriend thought I should give it honorable mention. Why? Not because HE likes it either. She said in her interview that she didn't buy this dress for the awards, but her boyfriend had bought this for her a while back. I think she's just trying to get that ring on her finger... The dress does look much better photographed than live though.

I don't particularly like Anna Kendrick's dress, but I LOVE her! She did such a great job in Up in the Air, and from her interviews seems like she has a great personality. You should keep your eye on this one!

This dress is sooo weird! Zoe Saldana looked great while presenting, but it photographs hideously!

I wouldn't wear this dress, but I can appreciate it. Besides, Diane Kruger is my girl and is always fabulous.

I don't like the dress itself, but alas, life is unfair and as a result, Halle Berry looks hot in anything.

*deep sigh* It really bugs me when celebs don't keep it real with us. The latest offender??? Emma Watson. Although she said last July when she became the face of Burberry, that she had NO interest in having a clothing nor perfume line click here, she has been acting as creative advisor for her own eco-friendly line for British retailer, People Tree called The Emma Watson for People Tree collection.

The entire collection, which includes a full range of separates for men and women, is 100% organic cotton and made entirely by hand by Fair Trade groups. "I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren't many options out there," said Watson in a statement.

The Warehouse Sale: NYC

The Warehouse sale is in NYC today and tomorrow, December 4-5th. The Warehouse Sale is a premium denim sample sale-type event that offers over 20,000 men and women's items for up to 80% off. They travel all over the U.S. (and internationally) for a weekend event that is usually located at the hosting city's convention center. I've been to a couple of these and they are pretty hit or miss, and the size range isn't that large. So basically, if you have an easy-to-fit frame, you have a good chance of walking away with a purchase.

New Denim Line Alert: Dior Homme

In the Spring, Dior Homme will launch a women's denim line (I know "homme" and "women's line" sound like an oxymoron, right?) as part of its Petite Taille (translation: Small Size) line. Accordiing to WWD, the line will be modeled after the label's men's collection and "has been adapted for the female figure with a touch of spandex for added flexibility." The Japanese premium denim will consist of skinny jeans that range from $405 - $1,185.

$405 - $1,185??!!! And they'll look like the above picture?! Um, no...I think I'll have to pass on those.

Red Carpet: 2009 AMAs

The American Music Awards took place this past Sunday November 22nd, and the stars did not disappoint! Here we go...:

The Good

Great choice for Rihanna! This gown is a definite stand-out and provides great buzz for her new album, Rated R, which was released yesterday.

Another consistent red carpet do-gooder is Jennifer Lopez. She never has to go overboard with a "Heeyyy, look at me!" gown, but ALWAYS looks fab. BOTH of her looks were FAB...especially the white Gucci gown.

This was a really nice as well as unexpected look for Alicia Keys. She's showing a little more skin than usual, and she's looking great while doing so!

I think that Sofia Vergara'sbody does more for the gown than the gown does for her body, but life is unfair like that sometimes

Carrie Underwood looked great from head-to-toe. I'm really loving the color of that gown!

The Bad

For her man A-Rod to just have won the World Series, I would've expected Kate Hudson to look on top of the world. Here, she just looks a little frump-a-dump-dump.

The color, the fit, the style of Nicole Kidman's dress is just ugh. What a waste of such a tall, elegant, and beautiful frame.

I think that Demi Lovato missed the mark here. The color of this dress does nothing for her complexion and hair color, and those nude shoes make me think that she's going to bust out into a broadway dance performance.

Frump-a-dump-dump #2 - Kelly Clarkson. I love her, but the fit of this gown is a big disappointment.

The Ugly

Leono Lewis is a gorgeous woman, but the symmetry of this dress (particularly the pointed bodice) and those clogs look kinda scary.

The Miscellaneous

I can't decide how I feel about Shakira's dress. I mean, its cute, but kinda lacks that umph and it looks a little too tight in the bust...in this photo anyway.

If Selena Gomez had chosen different shoes, she definitely would've made it to The Good list.

Red Carpet: The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala

The CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Gala took place at Skylight Studios Monday night. There were many more industry people than celebrities at this event, and unfortunately for us, non-celebs don't tend to push the fashion envelope as much as celebs. Therefore, weighing in wasn't as fun, but of course you know I did it anyway!

The Good

Lisa Airan with one of my favorite designers Zac Posen. I'd love to see a still shot of this dress because in motion it looks AMAZING!

Diane Von Furstenberg looked classy and chic as usual.

Karen Elsen pictured with the sister duo design team of Rodarte. I can do without the embellishment down the sleeves, but the dress itself is definitely striking.

Aminata Niaria looks great in this dress! This was a great choice. I believe this dress would only look this good on a tall thinner woman. The areas where the material is heaviest could unflatter a curvier woman.

Vanessa Traina's (r) dress is untraditional, but a very interesting pick!

The Bad

Nicole Kidman with keynote speaker, Alber Elbaz. I dont' feel that Nicole's dress is just okay, and in my opinion isn't doing anything for her, but Alber's outfit seems to be channeling its inner Penguin suit worn by Danny DeVito in Batman Returns.

Tory Burch (r) is known for designing flattering silhouettes to a large range of body types, but I'm not feeling this one... The blazer/skirt combo looks very thrown together.

I like Lauren Santo Domingo's dress...but NOT the A-line fit of it. It would be much more cute and sassy if it was fitted throughout the body.

The Ugly

It looks like mold is growing on Mark Ronson's suit...HATED it!

Blake Lively has been raising a lot of eyebrows lately with her deep plunging necklines and Sunday night was no exception. At the New York premiere of "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee," she wore this white Marchesa blazer and black mini-short sans blouse or bra. Here is my take on the fashion:

The Good

Ms. Rihanna killed it in this Stephane Rolland gown.

Serena Williams looked vibrant and beautiful in this red Pamella Roland gown.

Katharine McPhee caused quite a stir with the blonde hairstyle, but this great BODYAMR gown stole my attention.

The Bad

I LOVE Stella McCartney, but this look leaves much to be desired. Besides, even she confessed to a fashion faux-pas saying her dress was a little too short.

Same for Kerry Washington. Love her bunches, but this Fendi dress isn't doing much for her.

I think it may be a combination of the color of this gown with her hair and complexion, but this Stella McCartney only served to age and wash out Amy Poehler.

Why are the people I love doing this to me??? Zoe Kravitz underwhelmed me as well.

The Ugly

Marisa Mayer, VP of Search and Experience at Google is a brilliant woman, but this Oscar de la Renta color and texture medley was NOT a brilliant wardrobe decision.

The Miscellaneous

So, I'm not eating up this look from Jason Wu, but Iman always looks stunning. Life can be so unfair sometimes.

For once in a long time, Lindsay Lohan opted for a loose-fitting look. Cute jeans too!

Rihanna arrived at Milk studios in NYC. This is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon times that I don't like anything about her look. The hair, the outfit, and the boots don't do anything for me...or her.

I am really feeling Audrina's look. Its a very simple outfit of a tee, ripped jeans, and booties, but this just comes to show that a good fit alone can make an outfit work.

Who says that white jeans are just for summer?! I don't believe in locking up your white clothing all fall and winter long, but you should at least mix them with seasonal trends...that means lose the white tee and flip-flops Heidi.

Blake Lively was seen on the set of Gossip Girl wearing some great jeggings:

Beyonce arrived in South Korea to perform. This is a fun look for her. I don't love it, but its fun.

So I'm not liking this preppy/rock look that Katie Holmes put together. Its very possible to effectively and fashionably mix trends, but there is nothing here to tie them together.

Ah, Victoria Beckham comes to the rescue to prove my point! THIS is how you mix two looks without looking like you just threw something on! The formal tuxedo jacket with the rocker cords looks fab!

Ashley Tisdale was seen wearing the cutest Siwy wash. I'm thinking I may have to get these...

Stella McCartney for GapKids and babyGap

Stella McCartney designed a SUPER CUTE children's line for GapKids and babyGap. The 70-piece line which debuts on November 2nd in select Gap stores, includes clothes and shoes, and was designed to “find a kind of balance between Stella as in what I do for adults…and how I see kids, really,” she said. There are some child versions of her adult Fall '09 RTW collection including a gray sweater dress, gray cardigan dress, and gray skinny jeans...with ankle zippers! Cute!

“I guess I tackled it in the same way I would one of my own ready-to-wear collections, but then the challenge was, ‘OK, I’ve got to get into the same mind-set of a kid and what they might like,’” said McCartney. Being a mom of three really served in doing so. "It’s quite a good thing to have kids when you’re designing a kids’ collection, to be aware that they actually have their own point of view.”

The sizes run from a newborn up to size 12.

I don't have any little kiddies, but if I did, I would be all over this line!

Red Carpet: Whitney Museum Annual Gala

On Monday night, the Whitney Museum hosted its Annual Gala in NYC last night. For those of you who, like me, have never heard of this museum, here is a little background on the organization:

The Whitney Contemporaries is a dynamic group of art patrons between the ages of twenty-one and forty, committed to supporting the Whitney's mission of championing emerging voices and artistic innovation. Contemporaries are guaranteed exclusive access to the Whitney’s unparalleled resources and the New York art scene.

So, while you may know who all or most of these people are, I don't, nor do I care; I'm judging them all the same. Ok, so now onto the fashion:

The Good

New Mommy, Jennifer Hudson looked beautiful in Versace.

Dontatella must've loved the fabric so much, she got her very own dress made out of it too! I don't know about those straps on the bodice, but her body looks great in it.

Socialite, Jamee Gregory wore an amazing animal print gown...not an easy feat. If the belt didn't come with it, she gets even MORE kudos and great accessorization!

Socialite, Zani Gugelmann put togeher an unexpected look with these black tights, but I'm really feeling it! They actually make the dress and shoes pop when they otherwise wouldn't have.

Chanel Iman looked great as usual.

Lindsay Lohan wore a hot gold dress! I hate that her hair matches it though.

Andrea Glimcher (I believe may be another socialite) is working formal maternity wear beautifully.

The Bad

The silhouette of Shakira's dress is amazing, but what's going on with the strappy bottom hem AND strappy heels??? Too much!

Socialite, Lauren Santo Domingo in a blah dress in a blah color. Its not awful, I just expect so much more umph from a billionaire...

Socialite, Liz Swig, a neither 20 OR 30-something woman, in a 20-something appropriate dress. Unless you've been blessed with Halle Berry's genes, it matters.

I HATE the styling of Taylor Momsen's look. I think the fishnets are way too harsh.

Mischa Barton's isn't doing anything for her figure. I think this would've suited an older woman better.

The Ugly

Emma Hall with a lollipop around her neck...um, NO.

Look at Julie Macklowe. This look is not getting it and her friend knows it too.

The Miscellaneous

No fashion comments here. I just though it was funny to see Gerard Butler checking out Lake Bell's ASSets like that. LOL

Leslie Blume, is that a lobster on your hat??? SMH

I can't decide how I feel about Genevieve Jones' look, but its definitely intriguing.

Spring 2010 Trend: Less is More

Gucci iPhone Application

Following the trend of Chanel, Ralph Lauren, and Net-A-Porter, today Gucci will launch its first iPhone/iPod Touch application.

Not only will it offer a 24-hour music channel, hotel and restaurant tips, playlists and a turntable for mixing Mark Ronson tracks, it will also enable users to purchase an exclusive pair of sneakers from the Ronson collection. Also launching this Saturday, is Gucci's traveling sneaker store.

"I designed the Gucci app like I would any other accessory," Gucci creative director Frida Giannini tells WWD. "Music is an essential part of my vision, and the app is the perfect instrument to be able to bring music to the virtual world of Gucci. Working with Mark Ronson has obviously given me the opportunity to include a cool factor and exclusive content."

I'm actually a BlackBerry user, but I will be checking this out on my iPhone user/friend's phones!

The Warehouse Sale: NYC

The Warehouse sale will be in NYC this Friday and Saturday. The Warehouse Sale is a premium denim sample sale-type event that offers over 20,000 men and women's items for up to 80% off. They travel all over the U.S. (and internationally) for a weekend event that is usually located at the hosting city's convention center. I've been to a couple of these and they are pretty hit or miss, and the size range isn't that large. So basically, if you have an easy-to-fit frame, you have a good chance of walking away with a purchase.

This is also a good opportunity to find some cheaper jeans to try some DIYs - bleaching, ripping, etc.

Fashion Fail: Rodarte for Target

Sooo, some pics of the highly anticipated Rodarte/Target Go International line have leaked...and I'm sad to report that I. HATE. IT. I tried to look at these photos from several different perspectives to determine if it was the styling that turns me off, and not the clothes. After getting over my initial shock and disappointment, I determined that I would wear (though not necessarily buy) the cardigans, but these other pieces can kick rocks. This is a fashion fail for me. To think, I was going to take an early lunch to be at the store when it opened! Not anymore...

Week in Denim

So, since I missed last week's (work was nuts), some of these include denim looks from then as well.

Amber Rose kept it much more casual than normal choosing to use her lime sneakers for a pop of color.

Eva Marcille rocked the over-the-knee boot trend and an um interesting hairstyle. I'm really trying hard to find a super cute affordable pair. If anybody has seen any, please let me know!

Expectant Mommy Christina Milian and her hubby, The Dream both in denim. I expected her to be a little less laid back and a little more fashionable during her pregnancy...

Mya looked cute in a great fitting pair of jeans. I say leave the formal summer heels at home though.

I love and fully appreciate Patricia Field's TALENT, so I'm going to refrain from saying anything negative here, but I do like these jeans!

Chanel RTW Spring/Summer 2010

For Chanel's Spring/Summer 2010 ready-to-wear show Tuesday morning, Karl Lagerfeld went for a country-esque theme. With bales of hay everywhere, models displayed the neutral-toned collection while wearing high-heeled clogs (Lagerfeld called them 5 o’clogs). While it wasn't my favorite collection (I'm not a big frills and lace type of girl), its evident that varying textures played a huge part in the collection's overall feel.

Rihanna, who will be shooting her next album cover very soon, has been going to many of fashion shows for inspiration. “I’m shopping for what I’m going to wear on the cover,” she said. Well, excuse me! I am not mad at you girl, that IS the way to do it!

She also revealed that she will be starting her own fashion line which she describes as “fun and edgy and badass.” This isn't surprising at all and I'm SUPER excited about it! I think her and Diane Kruger have the hottest styles right now, but considering that Rihanna does have a stylist, the fabulous Mariel Haenn, I wonder how much of her look is created on her own... Is she capable of pulling this off? Will it be the usual over-hyped and under-styled celebrity fashion line?

75 years ago in September of 1934, Levi Strauss & Co. introduced its first line of women's jeans called Lady Levi's. They were created for women who wore men's jeans while working on farms and ranches, but by 1935, made it all the way to the pages of Vogue Magazine.

To celebrate this anniversary, Lynn Downey, Levi Strauss & Co historian, will be hosting several events at Levi stores which will feature historical women's jeans, memorabilia, and discounts to shoppers.

The upcoming dates and locations are:

October 3 - Los Angeles Beverly Hills Store
October 17 - San Francisco Union Square Store
October 24 - Chicago Michigan Avenue Store

"Levi Strauss & Co.'s decision to create a line of women's Levi's jeans was very progressive at the time," says Downey. Dolce & Gabbana Launch

FRESH DIRECT: On the arms of Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, Naomi Campbell, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova were cheered on arrival by a crowd of nearly 3,000 at Rinascente Friday evening.

The faces of D&G's new fragrance collection, the supermodels, clad in D&G's denim pieces, turned up at the luxury department store to sign autographs and pose for pictures with the designers in the ground floor beauty department. "I'm overwhelmed, this is amazing," said Campbell, who walked out singing along to George Michael's “Freedom 90” song, the soundtrack for the fragrances' TV commercials.

Word has it that Mario Testino, director of the scent collection's TV and print campaigns, decided at the last minute to capture the models completely nude, and convinced the trio, despite the fact it had not been specified in their contracts.

Teyana Taylor rocked her ripped jeans with the trendy motorcycle jacket. Just in case you didn't know, the motorcycle jacket is HUGE for fall...HUGE.

Gisele Bundchen is one of those women other women love to hate. She has Tom Brady, is wearing non-maternity jeans at 6 months into her pregnancy...with Tom Brady's child, and she's living life to the fullest, pursing her helicopter license...hey, where's Tom Brady?! Oh, making millions on the field...my bad.

Here is Ashanti with her little sister, Shi Shi. I posted this picture to criticize Shi Shi's horrible stonewashed denim jumper, only to realize that I hate Ashanti's outfit as well. I DO like Ashanti's new hairstyle though.

AnnaLynne McCord and Gabrielle Union both wearing their jeggings. I'm loving AnnaLynne's look!

Kate Beckinsale in tie-dyed jeans. Not sure where those white pumps fit in AFTER Labor Day! I am all about year-round white, but I believe that we must stop at the shoes.
